Animal cruelty arrests are up in Ontario County this year, with officers investigating over 1,000 complaints and rescuing hundreds of animals, according to 13WHAM.
Fourteen dogs and three cats were seized from a Canandaigua home Tuesday — with four more cats found dead in a freezer. Two people were charged with cruelty. The county shelter, built for 50 animals, is now housing 94.
The Humane Society hopes to expand in 2026 and is urging people to adopt rescued pets once they’re treated and cleared.
