New book reveals Bath-born serial killer’s path to justice

A new book by Sacramento DA Thien Ho dives into the decades-long pursuit of Joseph DeAngelo Jr., the Bath, New York native unmasked as the Golden State Killer, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.

DeAngelo, a former cop, pleaded guilty in 2020 to 13 murders and dozens of other violent crimes across California from 1974 to 1986. Ho’s book, The People vs. The Golden State Killer, details how DNA genealogy finally led to his 2018 arrest.

DeAngelo, who was born in Bath Memorial Hospital in 1945, turned 80 this month in a California prison. His sister, Rebecca, also born in Bath, died days later at age 83.
