Mets sign reliever Devin Williams to three-year deal

Devin Williams’ time with the Yankees is over, and his next stop is across town.

The veteran reliever is joining the Mets on a three-year, $45 million contract with deferred money, according to reports from The Athletic and ESPN

Williams, 31, spent just one season with the Yankees after coming over in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers, but inconsistent results pushed him out of the closer role and led the club to seek upgrades at the deadline.

His move to Queens does not change the Mets’ pursuit of Edwin Díaz, who opted out of his contract earlier this offseason to pursue a new deal in free agency, per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. Díaz returned to form in 2024 after missing the previous year with a torn patellar tendon.

Williams posted a career-worst 4.79 ERA across 67 appearances for the Yankees.
