A Nevada man is facing a DWI charge after nearly hitting a Penn Yan police vehicle during a nighttime traffic stop.
Officers arrested 57-year-old Keith D. Newell of Pahrump after he was seen driving without headlights on Main Street. Police say he swerved into oncoming traffic and almost struck a patrol car.
Officers pulled him over and said he showed several signs of intoxication. After failing field sobriety tests, Newell was taken into custody.
At the Yates County Jail, he refused to take a chemical test. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, no or inadequate lights, failure to keep right, and moving from a lane unsafely.
Newell was processed and held for centralized arraignment.
