NYS golfers posted more than 1.19 million rounds—another record-setting season for the Empire State
New York State golfers delivered another blockbuster year in 2025, posting more than 1.19 million rounds during the official handicap season and signaling one of the strongest participation surges the Empire State has ever seen, according to new data released by the New York State Golf Association (NYSGA).
From April 15 through October 31, golf activity climbed across nearly every metric: memberships, total rounds, junior participation, and club engagement all hit multi-year highs. For facilities across Upstate New York — from Buffalo to Albany to the Adirondacks — 2025 confirmed what many industry leaders have predicted: golf in New York is booming again.
Membership Up Sharply — Especially Among Junior Golfers
The NYSGA recorded 46,987 active memberships, a 6.7% year-over-year increase, and continued steady growth among men and women.
But the most striking jump came from the junior ranks:
- Active Junior golfers: 2,506 (+115.9% YOY)
- Active Male golfers: 37,678 (+6.8% YOY)
- Active Female golfers: 8,083 (+2.4% YOY)
NYSGA officials say the Youth on Course program and post-pandemic participation trends contributed to record junior engagement.
Over 1.19 Million Rounds Posted—A Modern-Era Peak
In total, 1,196,021 rounds were posted by NYSGA members, with 44,439 golfers logging at least one official score. When including golfers from other regional associations who played at NYSGA facilities, the total rises to 1,027,680 rounds.

Transit Valley Country Club in Western New York led all facilities with 16,707 rounds posted, followed closely by Park Country Club and Shaker Ridge.

Shaker Ridge CC also topped the list for most rounds posted by club members, with nearly 23,000.
Most Active Memberships by Club
Park Country Club took the top spot with 625 active NYSGA members, followed closely by Tuscarora GC, Orchard Park CC, and Skaneateles CC — a strong cross-section of Western New York and Central New York golf communities.
NYSGA eClubs Continue Rapid Expansion
Online-based NYSGA eClubs — especially in Western NY, the Capital Region, and Central NY — now account for tens of thousands of rounds and provide easier entry points for newer golfers.

Competitive Golf Stays Strong

These players essentially lived on the course from April through October.
Average Scores Hold Steady Statewide
Across all golfers:
- Average 18-hole score: 87
- Men: 86
- Women: 98
- Average 9-hole score: 46
This data represents one of the largest full-season samples in the country.
