Four ex-correctional officers were sentenced Friday for their roles in the 2024 beating death of inmate Robert Brooks, according to Spectrum News.
Two officers received 22-year sentences for first-degree manslaughter, while two others got lesser terms for second-degree charges. Brooks died hours after arriving at Marcy Correctional Facility, with bodycam footage showing the fatal assault.
The brutal footage sparked public outrage and fueled calls for prison reform. A fifth officer convicted at trial faces up to life in prison next month, and one more still awaits trial.
