Byrne Dairy wants to replace Weedsport’s shuttered Shurfine grocery with a gas station and convenience store, sparking pushback from residents, according to The Citizen.
Locals plan to speak out at a public hearing Thursday, many arguing the village — with no grocery store but three gas stations — needs fresh food, not more fuel. Others say a Byrne Dairy, which offers limited groceries, is better than leaving the site vacant.
The Shurfine closed in March, forcing residents, including seniors, to travel for basic groceries.
