The City of Ithaca is officially searching for a new City Controller—a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the city’s finances and shaping its long-term fiscal strategy.
Announced Tuesday, the search seeks a seasoned financial professional to serve as Ithaca’s Chief Financial Officer. The Controller will manage everything from budgeting and auditing to financial reporting and compliance with state and federal laws.
“This position is critical to both the day-to-day operations of the City as well as the long-term vision and financial planning,” said City Manager Deb Mohlenhoff. “I encourage anyone with demonstrated leadership and expertise in the financial field to consider applying today.”
The City Controller reports directly to the City Manager and works closely with other departments to promote transparency, efficiency, and sound use of public funds. Officials say the ideal candidate will have a background in public finance or accounting and a strong commitment to ethical leadership.
Mayor Robert Cantelmo emphasized the importance of the hire. “This role is too important to get anything less than the right fit,” he said. “We’re looking for someone who brings rigor, steadiness, and a commitment to transparent financial stewardship.”
Applications are being accepted through January 16, 2026. A full job description and application portal can be found on the City of Ithaca Civil Service Employment website.
