Ithaca man charged in armed robbery on East Buffalo Street

Police have arrested an Ithaca man in connection with an armed robbery that took place last week in the city’s downtown.

Officers say 18-year-old Jacob D. Chaires was taken into custody Monday after being spotted near the 600 block of West Clinton Street. He was wanted in connection with a November 13 robbery in which a victim reported being held at gunpoint while money was forcibly taken.

According to the Ithaca Police Department, the victim identified Chaires as a known suspect. After interviewing him, investigators charged Chaires with second-degree robbery, a Class B felony.

He was arraigned before Judge Seth Peacock and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $10,000 bail.
