Gala raises $42K for Geneva’s police and firefighters

A packed house at Ventosa Vineyards raised $42,000 for Geneva’s police officers and firefighters during a night that honored two of the city’s most respected public safety leaders.

The Second Impact Foundation hosted its annual Shields of Honor Gala on November 1, bringing the community together to support first responders with cocktails, live music, and a high-energy auction. The event, now in its fourth year, has raised a total of $144,000 for the Geneva Police and Fire Departments.

Guests filled the room to celebrate the late Fire Chief Carlton Naegele and Police Chief Frank Pane Jr., both recognized for their decades of dedicated service. The inaugural Naegele Award was accepted by retired firefighter Bernard “Bernie” Naegele on behalf of his father. Pane received his award in person.

Speakers included orthopedic surgeon Dr. Daniel Alexander and Ontario County Judge Kristina “Kitty” Karle, who offered powerful reflections on public service and community commitment.

“The fire and police departments are the backbone of our community,” said Ray Ciancaglini, founder of The Second Impact Foundation. “Their bravery and dedication often go unrecognized. This gala is our way of saying thank you — of standing together to honor those who answer the call when we need them most.”

The auction featured 13 standout items, including a Winchester 1894 NRA 100-year commemorative rifle, a Henry 9mm semi-automatic, and a football helmet signed by Hall of Famer John Elway.

Ciancaglini, a former professional boxer, lives with Parkinson’s Syndrome and CTE from untreated concussions. He founded The Second Impact Foundation to raise awareness around concussion safety and mental health — and to build a culture of resilience and community support. The gala is one of the many ways his organization turns that mission into action.

The money raised this year will help provide vital tools and resources for Geneva’s first responders.
