Another Upstate Hospital employee has been detained by ICE — the third in less than a month, WSTM reports. This time, it’s a man from Guinea who came to the U.S. seeking asylum and had just completed training for a cleaning job at the Syracuse hospital.
CSEA union leaders said ICE picked him up Tuesday while he was walking to a store. He’s now being held at a detention center in Batavia. Two Cuban employees were detained in October after attending an immigration hearing; their court dates are scheduled for later this month.
Union officials say the situation is fueling fear and uncertainty among immigrant workers at the hospital.
