The holiday season will get a touch of magic next month as the Rochester City Ballet brings its beloved production of The Nutcracker to Fort Hill Performing Arts Center, with shows scheduled from Dec. 5 through Dec. 7.
The timeless ballet, set to the iconic music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and performed live by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, promises all the enchanting snowflakes, sweets, and sparkle that audiences have come to expect — all performed by local dancers and musicians.
This year’s run includes a special sensory-friendly performance on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. Admission to this performance is free for individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other specific needs, along with their families and caregivers.
“We’re beyond excited to bring the magic of The Nutcracker back to the Greater Rochester community and to make it accessible to individuals of all abilities,” said Shannon Purpura, Executive Director of Rochester City Ballet.
Those interested in attending the sensory-friendly show can RSVP through the Rochester City Ballet website.
A holiday tradition with local talent
Unlike touring productions, RCB’s Nutcracker is Rochester’s only locally cast and orchestrated performance of the classic ballet. It’s a celebration of regional talent and a longstanding collaboration between the ballet company and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Canandaigua performances follow an initial run at Kodak Hall in Rochester, taking place Nov. 26–30.
Tickets for the Fort Hill shows are on sale now and available through the RCB website, where attendees can also find details about the sensory-friendly performance and other show features.
