Vandalism at Frontenac Park leaves Union Springs reeling

The Village of Union Springs is urging the public to come forward with any information after vandals caused significant damage to Frontenac Park overnight.

According to village officials, the damage includes broken windows, a destroyed door, and torn-down electrical cords. The park, located on the shores of Cayuga Lake, is a popular spot for families and visitors — and the incident has left residents both angry and saddened.

“Frontenac Park is everyone’s park and a safe place for children and families,” said Mayor Robert C. Thurston Jr. in a statement. “This damage not only comes with a cost but is hurtful to everyone who lives in and visits Union Springs.”

The mayor encouraged anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or knows who is responsible to contact the New York State Police. He also called on those involved to take responsibility.

“Taking responsibility helps protect our community and keeps our park safe for everyone,” Thurston said.

Frontenac Park is a central part of life in Union Springs, hosting local events, family outings, and summer recreation. Village leaders said they’re committed to repairing the damage but stressed the importance of community support in holding those responsible accountable.
