LOCATE Finger Lakes, IBEW to host energy summit in December

As the result of growing concerns over the severe problems caused by the lack of adequate energy and distribution, LOCATE Finger Lakes, in conjunction with the Finger Lakes Institute, members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and area job development leaders will conduct a critically important Energy Infrastructure Summit on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

The Energy Infrastructure Summit will be held on Monday, December 1st in the Scandling Center’s Vandervort Room on the HWS campus from 10am to 2pm. Seating is limited and pre-registration is strongly recommended. A light lunch will be provided.

LOCATE Finger Lakes, the Finger Lakes Institute, members of area IBEW union locals, engineering firms, housing developers and job development offices from across the Finger Lakes region welcome the opportunity to hold this important and timely Energy Infrastructure Summit to address the important issues surrounding adequate energy distribution in our region.

“The Energy Infrastructure Summit comes in the wake of local governments across the Finger Lakes region enacting formal resolutions demanding increased electric infrastructure investment. New shovel ready housing development and other commercial job producing projects have been scrubbed because the electric grid has not kept pace to improve energy distribution,” said LOCATE Finger Lakes Chairman and former NY State Senator Mike Nozzolio.

“The failure to invest in and modernize the electrical infrastructure jeopardizes our region’s economic future. Addressing this challenge must be a top priority to ensure long-term growth, security, and prosperity for all of Upstate New York,” said Michael Davis, Chairman New York State Electrical Worker’s Business Managers Committee.

“At the Energy Infrastructure Summit, individuals representing the business community, I.B.E.W. leadership, engineering firms and economic development professionals will provide insight, define the problems, review infrastructure constraints, analyze options and conduct an open forum to discuss solutions with a delegation of New York State Legislative leaders from across the greater Finger Lakes region,” said Michael Miller, Executive Director, Cayuga County Industrial Development Authority.

In the coming weeks, LOCATE Finger Lakes and the Energy Infrastructure Summit organizers will announce the specific panels that will take place at the Summit as well as the individuals who will comprise each panel.
