The Syracuse women’s basketball team cruised to a 96-72 win over Canisius on Tuesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome, powered by a trio of double-digit scorers. Laila Phelia led the way with 22 points, followed by Dominique Darius with 21 and Uche Izoje with a career-best 17, as the Orange improved to 3-0 on the season.

Syracuse set the tone early, exploding for a 32-11 first-quarter lead behind Phelia’s perfect 5-for-5 shooting and Journey Thompson’s six points on 100 percent accuracy. The Orange offense continued to roll in the second quarter, as Darius caught fire with a stretch of three straight scoring plays, including a three-pointer, a fadeaway jumper, and a fastbreak layup, helping SU take a 53-34 advantage into halftime.
Canisius found its rhythm in the second half, outscoring Syracuse in the third quarter, but Izoje’s nine points in the frame helped maintain a comfortable 72-55 cushion heading into the fourth. The Orange kept up the pace in the final 10 minutes, with seven players contributing to close out their first 90-point performance since February 2025.
Syracuse capitalized on 19 first-quarter points off turnovers and finished with 35 made field goals, its most in nearly a year. Phelia and Darius became the first Orange duo to each score 20-plus points in a game since February, highlighting a balanced and dominant offensive showing.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, November 16, when it hosts Wagner at 2 p.m.
