The New York Yankees are set to hire Dan Fiorito as their new first base roach, according to a report Monday from Greg Joyce of The New York Post.
Fiorito, 35, takes over the role previously held by Travis Chapman. A Yonkers native, Fiorito has been with the Yankees’ minor league system for several years, managing Double-A Somerset in 2022 and Single-A Hudson Valley in 2021.
The move is part of a broader organizational shakeup following another disappointing season. Hitting coordinator Jake Hirst is being promoted to the major league staff, while longtime bullpen coach Mike Harkey will not return. Assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler may transition into a different position within the organization.
Several members of last year’s coaching staff are expected to stay, including bench coach Brad Ausmus, pitching coach Matt Blake, assistant hitting coach Casey Dykes, and catching director Tanner Swanson. However, third base and outfield coach Luis Rojas could pursue managerial opportunities elsewhere. Hitting coach James Rowson recently interviewed for the Twins’ managerial job, though Minnesota ultimately hired Derek Shelton.
The Yankees are also bringing back Desi Druschel as assistant pitching coach after a season in the same position with the Mets.
