Syracuse football’s offensive struggles continued Saturday in a 38-10 loss to No. 18 Miami at Hard Rock Stadium, the program’s sixth straight defeat. The Orange (3-7, 1-6 ACC) managed just one field goal until the final seconds, while the Hurricanes (7-2, 3-2) used a balanced attack and three takeaways to pull away.
Quarterback Rickie Collins returned to the starting role, finishing 12-of-26 for 85 yards and two interceptions. Backup Joseph Filardi entered late, going 3-for-3 for 39 yards and a touchdown to Elijah Washington-Baker on the game’s final drive. Syracuse’s ground game was the lone bright spot, tallying 161 of its 285 total yards. Yasin Willis ran for 63 yards, Will Nixon added 61, and Tylik Hill chipped in 44.
The Orange defense held strong early, keeping Miami scoreless for more than a quarter before the Hurricanes broke through on a trick play touchdown run by quarterback Carson Beck. Moments later, a pick-six off Collins stretched the deficit to 14-0. Syracuse’s best first-half chance ended with a lost fumble near the Miami goal line. After halftime, a promising drive ended in a field goal, but Miami quickly responded with a 61-yard strike to Keelan Marion and later added two more touchdowns and a field goal.
The Hurricanes outgained Syracuse 430-285 and capitalized on every Orange mistake.
