Auburn woman charged in retail theft and pawn shop scheme

A 39-year-old woman from Auburn has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after authorities say she repeatedly stole merchandise from Walmart and resold it at a local pawn shop.

According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, Jennifer R. Smith was taken into custody on November 5 following an investigation into a series of retail thefts.

Deputies say Smith stole merchandise on multiple occasions from the Walmart in Auburn and then sold the stolen items for cash. As a result of the investigation, she was charged with a felony count of grand larceny, as well as three counts of falsifying business records.

    Smith was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and arraigned in Auburn City Court, where she was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail. She is scheduled to appear in court again on November 7 at 2:30 p.m.
