As the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce prepares to celebrate the 40th ATHENA Awards, it’s calling on the community to do more than just applaud outstanding leaders — it’s asking them to give back.
Inspired by one of the ATHENA program’s eight tenets of enlightened leadership, the Chamber Foundation has launched a new annual tradition: a countywide food drive focused on addressing local food insecurity just in time for the holidays.
Giving back, one tenet at a time
“For 40 years, we’ve honored Ontario County leaders who exemplify ATHENA values,” said Chamber President and CEO Tracey Dello Stritto. “This year, we’re challenging the community to live those values — starting with ‘Give Back.’”
The drive encourages individuals, businesses, and ATHENA Dinner attendees to donate non-perishable food items. All donations will be distributed to food cupboards across Ontario County before Thanksgiving, with support from Leadership Ontario alumni and Chamber staff.
How to participate
There are three easy ways to join the effort:
- Drop off food at the Ontario County Chamber office

Hours: Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (through November 20) - Bring donations to the ATHENA Dinner on November 13 at Finger Lakes Community College

The initiative got an early boost from the Ontario Children’s Foundation, which donated $1,000 to help kick things off.
Honoring leadership and legacy
This year’s sold-out ATHENA Dinner will honor a group of exceptional women leaders who exemplify values like authenticity, courage, and service. Honorees include nonprofit directors, entrepreneurs, educators, and community advocates from across the region.
In addition to celebrating these individuals, the food drive adds a new dimension to the ATHENA Awards legacy — one rooted in action and community impact.
