Yates County CERT joins Ontario County in jail training exercise

Members of the Yates County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division recently teamed up with neighboring law enforcement agencies for a large-scale training at the Ontario County Jail.

On October 28, Yates County’s Cell Extraction Response Team (CERT) took part in an interagency exercise focused on cell extraction and facility security. The training included Ontario County Jail’s Emergency Response Team, the Ontario County SWAT unit, the county’s K9 team, and deputy volunteers.

Officials described the joint effort as a successful “shake-down” operation—a routine yet critical drill that helps officers practice safe, coordinated responses to potential jail disturbances.

Interagency collaborations like this one are key to strengthening regional response capabilities and ensuring jail staff are prepared for high-risk scenarios.
