Jason MacBride won an essentially uncontested race for Ontario County District Attorney on Tuesday, even though the outgoing DA’s name still appeared on the ballot.
Jim Ritts, the incumbent, had retired and withdrawn from the race in late summer.
In a statement on election night, MacBride said he was “deeply honored and humbled” by the result. He thanked his family, campaign team, volunteers, law enforcement partners, and supporters across the county.
“This race was never about politics,” he said in the statement. “It was about doing what’s right and restoring trust in our justice system.”
MacBride outlined his priorities heading into office: fair and transparent prosecution, strong partnerships with law enforcement, support for crime victims, and mentoring young prosecutors.
“The work begins now,” he said.
