A New York judge just shut down Texas’s attempt to punish a local doctor for providing abortion pills, according to the Times Union.
State Supreme Court Justice David Gandin ruled Ulster County Clerk Taylor Bruck acted legally when he refused to file a $113,000 Texas judgment against Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter, who prescribed the pills through telehealth.
Texas AG Ken Paxton argued New York had to honor the out-of-state ruling, but the judge said New York’s shield law bars officials from helping with abortion-related cases that are legal in the state. Texas has 30 days to appeal.
