New York AG Letitia James is trying to block federal subpoenas demanding her records on cases involving Donald Trump and the NRA, according to the Times Union.
Her office argues the subpoenas—issued by acting U.S. Attorney John Sarcone III—are invalid because Sarcone wasn’t properly appointed. The dispute, now unsealed, also accuses the federal probe of being political retaliation tied to James’ past lawsuits against Trump and the NRA.
A Manhattan judge hasn’t ruled yet, but called the public interest in the case “substantial.” Sarcone’s role remains under scrutiny as critics question his authority.
