The fourth-ranked Cornell women’s hockey team stayed unbeaten with a 5-1 victory over No. 15 Brown on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The Big Red improved to 7-0-0, while the Bears dropped to 3-2-1.
Cornell’s offense came from all over the lineup, with goals by Alyssa Regalado, Georgia Schiff (two), Karel Prefontaine, and McKenna Van Gelder. Regalado opened the scoring midway through the first period on a power play, and Schiff added another just before intermission to make it 2-0. Schiff struck again in the second frame, extending the lead to three on an assist from Grace Dwyer.
In the third, Prefontaine buried Cornell’s second power-play goal of the day to push the advantage to 4-0. Brown’s Sam Broz ended the shutout bid at 12:18 of the period, but Van Gelder answered minutes later with the Big Red’s third power-play tally to seal the 5-1 win.
Annelies Bergmann stopped 18 shots to earn her seventh straight victory in net, remaining perfect on the season. Cornell finished 3-for-5 on the power play while successfully killing off both of Brown’s opportunities. Dwyer, Lindzi Avar, and Prefontaine each contributed multiple assists to pace the attack.
The Big Red return to action next weekend for a home-and-home series with Colgate, beginning Friday, November 14, at Class of 1965 Arena before hosting the Raiders the following afternoon at Lynah Rink.
