A longtime leader in public safety is being recognized for his commitment to Wayne County and beyond.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office congratulated Sergeant Zach Aunkst for reaching 15 years of service. He began his career as a Deputy Sheriff in 2010 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2020.
Aunkst now leads several specialized teams and trainings. He serves as team leader for the Emergency Response Team and is part of the Ice Rescue Team. He’s also the Lead Firearms Instructor and Active Threat Instructor at the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy.
In addition to supervising the county’s School Resource Officers, Aunkst acts as the Sheriff’s Office liaison to state and federal agencies on domestic terrorism.
“Thank you, Sergeant Aunkst, for your service to Wayne County,” the department said.
