Police across Seneca County will be stepping up patrols this Halloween weekend to keep impaired drivers off the roads.
Sheriff Timothy J. Thompson, Jr. says local law enforcement agencies will take part in the statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign starting October 31 and running through November 2.
“Halloween is meant to be scary, but not when it comes to driving,” Thompson said. “We want you to enjoy the weekend with family and friends, but please make good decisions.”
The initiative coincides with a historically dangerous time for impaired driving. With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, officials expect more parties and events through the weekend.
The campaign is part of a broader effort led by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, with similar high-visibility crackdowns happening around Memorial Day, July 4, Thanksgiving, and other major holidays.
Officials are also encouraging people to download the “Have a Plan” mobile app, which helps users line up a sober ride home. More details are available at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp.
