The Buffalo Sabres battled back from two separate two-goal deficits but fell 4-3 in overtime to the Boston Bruins on Thursday night at TD Garden.
Buffalo entered the matchup with points in four straight games but was seeking to rebound after consecutive overtime losses. Despite outshooting Boston 40-22 and controlling much of the play, the Sabres’ overtime struggles continued as a costly turnover led to the Bruins’ game-winner in the 3-on-3 period.
Boston jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead, capitalizing on Buffalo’s early mistakes. Rasmus Dahlin cut the deficit in half with a power-play goal in the second period, though the Bruins regained momentum just before intermission with a goal in the final 20 seconds. The Sabres once again responded, trading tallies with Boston in the third before Dahlin set up Alex Tuch for the tying goal that forced overtime.
Dahlin turned in his strongest offensive performance of the season, finishing with a goal and an assist, though his turnover in overtime led to the deciding play. Alex Lyon made 18 saves in the loss.
The Sabres will look to bounce back Saturday at home against the Washington Capitals, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
