Fair Haven Beach gets accessibility boost in statewide park project

Visitors to Fair Haven Beach State Park will soon have easier access to the water, thanks to a new project funded through New York’s Enhanced Visitor Experience program.

The upgrade is part of a $287,200 initiative supporting improvements at 15 state campgrounds and day-use areas across New York. At Fair Haven, an accessible walkway is being installed to help more people reach the shoreline safely.

Launched in 2022, the Enhanced Visitor Experience (EVE) program allows park-goers to donate during the reservation process through ReserveAmerica. Those donations—nearly 23,500 in 2024 alone—are pooled to fund small but meaningful projects like fire ring upgrades, ADA pathways, and family-friendly programming.

“This program invites New Yorkers to shape their favorite State Parks,” said Acting Parks Commissioner Kathy Moser. “Many of the best ideas come directly from campers and visitors.”

The Fair Haven project joins other upgrades this year, including outdoor movie nights at Heckscher State Park, beach wheelchairs in the Thousand Islands, and complimentary kayaks at Moreau Lake.

Progress updates for all 15 projects will be posted on ReserveAmerica and the NY State Parks social media channels.
