Syracuse football drops fourth straight with blowout loss to No. 7 Georgia Tech (full coverage)

Syracuse football dropped its fourth straight game Saturday afternoon, falling 41-16 to No. 7 Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The loss pushed the Orange to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in ACC play, with each defeat during the skid coming by at least 13 points.

The Orange opened strong, forcing an early fumble recovered by David Reese. On the next play, Yasin Willis broke free for a 41-yard run to set up first-and-goal, but penalties and a sack limited Syracuse to a field goal. The defense held firm early, forcing a field goal and a turnover on downs, but the offense sputtered, punting on three straight drives. Georgia Tech capitalized, scoring 17 unanswered points to take a 20-3 lead into halftime.

Syracuse showed life to start the third quarter when quarterback Rickie Collins connected with Johntay Cook for 41 yards and Darrell Gill for a 34-yard touchdown, trimming the deficit to 20-10. However, a missed opportunity on the next defensive series proved costly. On a third-and-long, the Orange nearly sacked Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King, but a desperation heave turned into a first down that extended a touchdown drive and sealed the game’s momentum.

From there, the Yellow Jackets pulled away, outscoring Syracuse 21-6 the rest of the way.
