A Seneca Falls man is recovering after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning on a dark stretch of road in the Town of Fayette.
Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson says deputies responded around 6:18 a.m. on October 15 to the area of Marshall Road and Knight Road for a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash.
When deputies arrived, they found a 2018 Toyota RAV4 with significant front-end damage and the injured pedestrian, 24-year-old Richard Thomas, seated inside the vehicle receiving aid from volunteer firefighters.
The driver, identified as 39-year-old Jessica Johnson of Seneca Falls, was heading west on Marshall Road when she struck Thomas, who was walking in the same direction. Investigators say Thomas was wearing dark clothing and walking along an unlit section of the road at the time of the crash.
Thomas was first transported by North Seneca Ambulance to Geneva General Hospital, then flown by LifeNet to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. As of the latest update, he is in stable condition.
Johnson was not injured.
Marshall Road was temporarily closed while deputies investigated. The New York State Police and Fayette Fire Department assisted with traffic control, and the damaged vehicle was towed from the scene.
