Mets hire Kai Correa as next bench coach

The New York Mets have filled their bench coach vacancy just under two weeks after John Gibbons’ resignation, hiring Kai Correa to join manager Carlos Mendoza’s staff, Sports Illustrated’s Pat Ragazzo reported Tuesday.

Correa, 37, most recently worked with the Cleveland Guardians as their major league field coordinator and previously served as the San Francisco Giants’ bench coach under Gabe Kapler from 2020 to 2023.

Correa began his professional coaching career in the Guardians’ minor league system in 2018. He later became the youngest bench coach in Major League Baseball when promoted by San Francisco and managed the club’s final three games in 2023 following Kapler’s dismissal.

In a separate move, the Mets announced that Jeff Albert, the organization’s director of hitting development, will lead the team’s major league hitting program. Albert, who has previously held hitting coach roles with the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros, is expected to be in the dugout next season as the Mets seek an additional assistant hitting coach.
