RV fire damages Interlaken business and library, no injuries reported

An early morning vehicle fire in the Village of Interlaken caused significant damage to a recreational vehicle and minor damage to nearby buildings, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a local business around 8:23 a.m. on October 10 for a report of a fully engulfed vehicle fire. When fire crews arrived, they found a 1982 Chevy RV ablaze on the south side of the property.

Firefighters from Interlaken, Ovid, and Trumansburg quickly brought the fire under control. The RV was destroyed, and investigators say it was a total loss. The nearby business and the Village of Interlaken Library sustained minor cosmetic damage, but no injuries were reported.

The total damage estimate has not yet been determined.

The incident remains under investigation. The Seneca County Fire Investigation Team and Interlaken Police Department assisted at the scene.
