Alcohol sales plunge as cannabis gains ground

Beer, wine, and liquor sales are projected to drop sharply in 2026 — and cannabis is a major reason why, according to RochesterFirst.com.

A new Constellation Brands report predicts beer sales will fall by $185 million and spirits by $253 million. Fewer people are drinking, with alcohol use dropping from 67% in 2022 to 54% in 2025. Experts blame health concerns, changing social norms, and a growing preference for cannabis.

Cannabis drinks are now top sellers at some dispensaries, offering a social alternative that’s viewed as healthier and more sustainable.
