Inflation refund checks are hitting mailboxes in New York: Here’s who gets one

New York has started mailing out inflation refund checks to millions of residents, delivering a one-time financial boost to help offset rising living costs. If you filed your 2023 state taxes and meet the income thresholds, you could receive up to $400 automatically.

Who qualifies for the inflation refund check?

According to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, you may be eligible if you:

  • Filed a 2023 Form IT-201 (Resident Income Tax Return)
  • Met the state’s income qualifications
  • Were not claimed as a dependent on another person’s return

No application is needed. The checks are being sent automatically by mail.
