UPDATE: 94-year-old woman killed in Cayuga Co. crash

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 94-year-old woman in the Town of Venice on Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies say the crash happened around 2:19 p.m. on Sept. 30 at the intersection of Route 34B and Poplar Ridge Road.


According to the preliminary investigation, a silver Toyota Corolla was heading east on Poplar Ridge Road when it failed to yield at the intersection. The car was then struck by a northbound dump truck on Route 34B.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Elizabeth MacCormick, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The driver of the dump truck, 77-year-old Charles Signor, was not injured and remained at the scene. He is cooperating with investigators. The investigation is still ongoing.

Multiple agencies assisted at the crash site, including New York State Police, Cayuga County 911, the Coroner’s Office, local ambulance services, and several fire departments.
