A car left the road and slammed into trees in Hector on Monday morning, killing a 17-year-old passenger and sending the driver to the hospital.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 11:46 a.m. to a crash on County Road 1. When they arrived, they found a 2010 Ford Fusion that had failed to make a curve and went off the road.
The passenger, Marcus Knight, 17, of Trumansburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, identified as 18-year-old Michael Blake of Ithaca, was flown by helicopter to Upstate Medical for treatment.
First responders from the Trumansburg and Enfield fire departments, Trumansburg Ambulance, and the New York State Police accident reconstruction team assisted at the scene. The Schuyler County Coroner’s Office also responded.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
