An 18-year-old man was shot and killed by a State Trooper during a domestic incident in Chemung on Saturday afternoon.
New York State Police say Nathan J. Novakowski was threatening a woman with scissors inside a home on Rotary Road when officers arrived around 2:58 p.m.
A Trooper reportedly gave multiple commands for Novakowski to drop the weapon. Police say he became more agitated and tried to stab the victim. The Trooper then fired his gun, striking Novakowski.
The woman had minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Greater Valley Ambulance.
State Police and the Attorney General’s Office are investigating the shooting, as required by New York State law.
