Electrical panel sparks basement fire in Branchport

A small fire broke out in the basement of a Branchport home Wednesday afternoon, but was quickly contained before it could spread.

First responders were called to 1985 Keech Road in the Town of Jerusalem just before 4 p.m., according to the Yates County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire crews arrived to find light smoke in the basement. Investigators say the fire started at the home’s electrical panel but was limited to a small area. Damage was minimal, and no one was injured.

The homeowner, 65-year-old John Grabski, was home at the time.
