Prosecutor quits under pressure in Letitia James probe

The top federal prosecutor in Virginia resigned Friday after resisting Trump administration pressure to charge New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to the Associated Press and Spectrum News.

Erik Siebert, who led the mortgage fraud investigation into James, stepped down as President Trump publicly called for his removal. The probe, based on disputed paperwork tied to James’ properties, hasn’t produced charges—and her lawyers call it political revenge.

Trump later claimed on social media that he fired Siebert. Critics say the shake-up signals growing White House interference in Justice Department decisions, with Trump pushing prosecutors to target his political foes.
