Downtown Penn Yan to host Trunk or Treat Oct. 18

Main Street in Penn Yan will be filled with costumes, candy, and community spirit next month as the Downtown Business Council hosts its annual Trunk or Treat Festival on Friday, October 18, from 4 to 6 p.m.

The event, which runs between Chapel and Elm Streets, will close Main Street to traffic, creating a safe and festive space for kids and families to enjoy Halloween fun — all for free.

How to participate

Organizers are inviting individuals, businesses, and community groups to decorate a “trunk” and hand out candy. A $10 donation helps support the Downtown Business Council’s efforts to keep the event free for children.

Other ways to contribute include:

  • Donating candy at drop-off spots like The Nest Egg (125 Main), The Potters’ Gallery (9 Main), or Hoban’s Spirits (100 E. Main)
  • Buying candy for the cause at Keuka Candy Emporium (131 Main), where 10-pound bags can be purchased and donated directly
  • Volunteering or joining planning meetings held every Wednesday from 9–10 a.m. at Keuka Candy Emporium

More than just candy

In addition to trunk-or-treating, families can enjoy a costume parade, DJ music, food trucks, and — as organizers put it — “a whole lot of laughing kids & adults!”
