A business-inspired AI model could catch deadly deer disease nearly 9 months sooner than current methods, according to the Cornell Chronicle. Researchers at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Queen’s University tested it on chronic wasting disease in New York and found it also slashed costs by 22%.
Unlike traditional reactive approaches, the model uses budget optimization to predict where and when to focus early surveillance—helping conservation teams act before outbreaks spread.
Experts say the tool could also help fight invasive species, agricultural threats, and future pandemics.
