Syracuse women’s soccer dropped its first ACC home matchup Sunday, falling 4-0 to No. 7 Florida State at the SU Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Orange moved to 4-2-4 and 0-1-1 in conference play, while the Seminoles stayed unbeaten at 6-0-1.
Syracuse nearly opened the scoring midway through the first half when Maya McDermott’s curling corner found Mia Klammer, whose header forced a save from FSU goalkeeper Evan O’Steen. But the visitors broke through just before halftime, taking a 1-0 lead on Solai Washington’s low strike.
Florida State extended its advantage early in the second half with two goals in quick succession and added a fourth late to seal the win. Despite the scoreline, goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch made four saves, including a highlight stop in the 85th minute, to limit further damage.
The Seminoles outshot Syracuse 21-4, holding an 8-1 edge on goal. Klammer registered her sixth straight game with a shot on target, while Vanderbosch moved to 326 career saves.
The Orange conclude their five-game homestand against No. 5 Virginia on Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
