Genoa Fire Department upgrades rescue gear with $10K grant

The Genoa Volunteer Fire Department has added a major tool to its rescue arsenal thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Central New York Community Foundation’s Cayuga Community Fund.

The grant, awarded in June, helped the department purchase a Holmatro Pentheon Combi-Tool—a modern, battery-operated extrication device now mounted on the GFD’s Rescue truck.

Unlike older hydraulic models, the new Combi-Tool can cut and spread without switching attachments or dragging heavy hoses, making it faster and safer for firefighters to begin rescue operations at crash scenes.

“This is a huge step in modernizing our equipment cache,” the department shared, noting that their existing Jaws of Life had been in service for nearly 20 years.

The department purchased the tool through Colden Enterprises, a long-time partner and Holmatro supplier.

GFD credited the Central New York Community Foundation for making the upgrade possible, saying support like this leads to “better responses in our community.”
