A Bath resident is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into welfare fraud in Steuben County.
According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Terry C. Long III was arrested on September 8 after allegedly submitting false information to the county’s Department of Social Services.
Investigators say Long received $1,039 in public assistance benefits between May 27 and July 31 that he was not eligible for. He is accused of filing false documents and altering business records to obtain the funds.
Long has been charged with four class E felonies: offering a false instrument for filing, falsifying business records, welfare fraud, and grand larceny.
He was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to return to Village of Bath Court at a later date.
Sheriff Jim Allard thanked the county’s Department of Social Services and the District Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the case.
