Convicted felon charged in Smith Opera House burglary

Police arrested a Geneva man early Friday morning for allegedly breaking into the Smith Opera House and stealing electronics. The arrest follows an investigation into an August 27 burglary at the historic downtown venue.

Officers say 34-year-old Catheuss D. Golden, a convicted felon, forcibly entered the building on Seneca Street and took electronic equipment valued at over $500.

Geneva Police say the incident appears to be isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Golden was charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment. Officials say additional charges may be filed.
