John Sandlas V captured his second Club Championship in a highly competitive 36 holes final match on Labor Day at Seneca Falls Country Club. Sandlas defeated 16-year-old Harrison Wirth, 6&4, in a match that featured high quality shot-making, long drives and clutch putts in front of a gallery of over 100 spectators. John recaptured the title after winning his first Club Championship in 2022.
Sandlas reached the final match after shooting 75 in the Saturday morning qualifier, defeating Nico Franzone 1 UP in the opening round, Matt Ferrara 3&2 in the quarterfinals, and Andrew Bristol 4&3 in the semifinals.
Harrison Wirth, playing in his second club championship, qualified with a tournament low 74 before going on to defeat Jason Perrault 7&6 and Dan Kernan 5&3. Wirth then avenged a loss in the 2024 quarterfinals to Jim Sinicropi winning 4&2 in the Sunday afternoon semifinals.
In the 36 hole Labor Day final, Sandlas held a 5 UP lead on the 16th tee off the morning round. Wirth came storming back winning the final 3 holes of the first round to head to the lunch break at 2 DOWN. Sandlas proved to be too much in the afternoon as he won the 10th, 11th and 12th holes to create enough separation to close out the match with a birdie on the 14th green and end the match on the 32nd hole.
In the Senior Division, 2010 Men’s Club Champion Jim Sandlas defeated Bob Smith. Jim is John Sandlas’ uncle. It was his first Senior Club Championship.
Trish Rosata defeated Hailey Warren to capture her 4th Women’s Club Championship.
In the Super Senior Division, David Watkins defeated Michael Nozzolio, 4&3.
In the Dick Laude Division Doug Paradise defeated Justin Hilimire, 7&6.
