With rosters expanding from 26 to 28 on Monday, the New York Yankees reinstated left-hander Ryan Yarbrough from the injured list and recalled catcher J.C. Escarra from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Yarbrough had been out since late June with a right oblique strain. Before the setback, the left-hander was a steady contributor, posting a 3.90 ERA across 16 outings. Earlier this season, he helped fill a rotation spot, but manager Aaron Boone recently noted that Yarbrough will be used out of the bullpen as the Yankees push through the final month.
Escarra, meanwhile, rejoins the club after spending time at Triple-A. The 31-year-old has logged 40 Major League games this year.
The Yankees begin a three-game series with the Houston Astros on Tuesday at 8:10 p.m.
