Candlelight vigil in Mount Morris to honor lives lost to suicide and overdose

A candlelight vigil will be held on Thursday, Sept. 11 at Al Lorenz Park in Mount Morris to honor those lost to suicide and overdose.

The gathering begins at 6:30 p.m. at pavilion #3 and is open to anyone affected by loss. Now in its 11th year, the event is hosted by the Livingston County Suicide Prevention Task Force, Genesee Valley Health Partnership, and CASA-Trinity, Inc.

The evening will feature guest speakers, personal stories, and the lighting of candles in remembrance and hope. For those who can’t attend in person, the event will be livestreamed on the task force’s Facebook page.

Organizers also encourage residents to turn on their porch lights at 7:30 p.m. that evening to show support from home.

“Supportive community events like this help people build resilience and find hope, even during the most difficult times,” said Lynne Mignemi, Director of Livingston County Probation and Chair of the Task Force. “We warmly welcome all to this event, from Livingston County and surrounding areas.”

The vigil coincides with International Overdose Day (Aug. 31) and World Suicide Prevention Day (Sept. 10).
