Truck crashes into embankment in Fleming; driver airlifted

A tractor trailer slammed into an embankment Monday morning in the Town of Fleming, sending the driver to the hospital with head and torso injuries.

Deputies say the crash happened just after 11 a.m. along Route 34 near Glanville Road. The truck, which was pulling an empty box trailer, veered off the west side of the road and into a ditch before hitting the embankment.

Emergency crews from multiple departments responded, including the Fleming, Owasco, Auburn, and Scipio fire departments. The driver was flown to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse by Mercy Flight.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
