Man charged with DWI after speeding stop in Sterling: Had BAC over 3x legal limit

A traffic stop in Sterling led to a DWI arrest after deputies say a Fulton man was caught driving more than 70 miles per hour in a 55 zone — with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Robert N. Ravesi was pulled over around 9:55 p.m. on August 15, after a deputy clocked his white Ford F-250 going 73 mph on Route 104a. The stop occurred near the intersection with Route 3.

According to investigators, Ravesi showed signs of intoxication and refused to perform field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody and later registered a BAC of 0.26% — well above the legal limit of 0.08%.

Ravesi was charged with multiple violations and misdemeanors, including:

  • DWI (first offense)
  • Aggravated DWI
  • Speeding
  • Unsafe lane change
  • Operating without a license
  • Improper license

He’s scheduled to appear in Sterling Town Court on August 27 at 6:00 p.m.
